How to Change Your Car's Oil Filter: A Quick Guide

Supplies Needed:

  • New oil filter
  • Fresh engine oil
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Oil drain pan
  • Funnel
  • Gloves
  • Clean rag

Steps:

  1. Prepare Your Vehicle: 
    Park on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and let the engine cool.

  2. Locate the Oil Filter and Drain Plug:
    Refer to your manual. Place the oil drain pan under the drain plug.

  3. Drain the Old Oil:
    Loosen the drain plug and drain the oil. Replace the drain plug securely.

  4. Remove the Old Oil Filter:
    Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old filter.

  5. Prepare the New Oil Filter:
    Apply a small amount of fresh oil to the gasket on the new filter.

  6. Install the New Oil Filter:
    Screw the new filter in place by hand until snug. Do not over-tighten.

  7. Refill with Fresh Oil:
    Pour the recommended amount of oil into the engine using a funnel.

  8. Check for Leaks:
    Start the engine and check for leaks around the filter and drain plug.

  9. Dispose of Old Oil and Filter:
    Take used oil and filters to a recycling center.

Regularly changing your oil filter keeps your engine clean and efficient, ensuring long-term performance.
