How to Change Your Car's Oil Filter: A Quick Guide
Supplies Needed:
- New oil filter
- Fresh engine oil
- Oil filter wrench
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Gloves
- Clean rag
Steps:

Prepare Your Vehicle:
Park on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and let the engine cool. -
Locate the Oil Filter and Drain Plug:
Refer to your manual. Place the oil drain pan under the drain plug. -
Drain the Old Oil:
Loosen the drain plug and drain the oil. Replace the drain plug securely. -
Remove the Old Oil Filter:
Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old filter. -
Prepare the New Oil Filter:
Apply a small amount of fresh oil to the gasket on the new filter. -
Install the New Oil Filter:
Screw the new filter in place by hand until snug. Do not over-tighten. -
Refill with Fresh Oil:
Pour the recommended amount of oil into the engine using a funnel. -
Check for Leaks:
Start the engine and check for leaks around the filter and drain plug. -
Dispose of Old Oil and Filter:
Take used oil and filters to a recycling center.
